Scenic course surrounded by orchards and woodland
Located about an hour from Chiang Mai, Gold Canyon sits in a wild and rural region near Lamphun. The course is surrounded by orchards, woodlands, and canyons; providing the golfer with rural tranquility and scenic beauty on a one-of-a-kind layout.
The design of this Chiang Mai golf course is rather wide open with little water and few bunkers coming into play. However, trees are everywhere as you’ll see on six holes where they are situated directly in front of the tee-boxes. Your options are to flight your tee shots over them, under them, around them, or through them, any of which may be possible depending on the season and the individual circumstances of weather and wind on the day that you play. Putting trees in front of tee boxes is a naïve notion that crops up once in a while in various parts of the world.
Gold Canyon plays to over 7,329 yards from the back-tees and while the course playing areas are generally flat, be prepared to do a lot of additional walking as the distance from the greens to the next tees can be long and often hilly. The front nine is relatively easy for advanced golfers, but the back nine is another story. The back nine offers tighter and thicker grass areas, with a few water hazards, and are definitely the better challenge of the two nines.
The clubhouse and other amenities are average and provide basic necessities for Chiang Mai golfers. Gold Canyon Golf Club seems to appeal to adventurous types that not only play golf but also enjoy hiking and trekking off the beaten path in rugged scenery on a unique course layout.
